A rare set of Mont's GREEK KEY black lacquered, solid mahogany dining room chairs. Recently upholstered in black DEDAR horsehair material, they look sensational.

One of the most dazzling and notorious figures in twentieth-century American design, James Mont burst onto the modern furnishing scene, designing for both the New York underworld and the Hollywood royalty. Drawing on eastern influences and his own unpredictable personality, Mont’s designs and life make him one of the most intriguing figures of the American midcentury. His designs set him apart as a singular figure of American design of the 1940s through to the 1960s, straddling the overlapping worlds of Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, and Midcentury Modern.
