Extendable Dining Table by Vittorio INTROINI for SAPORITI, 1968

CHELSEA Table designed by Vittorio Introini. Italy, Saporiti, 1968.

Extendable dining table covered in lacquered Teak veneer. Pyramid-form pedestal base holding a weight and a square tabletop that extends to 200 cm x 100 cm. The table’s square top extends to accommodate additional seating, with two drop-leaf surfaces that fold out horizontally. The wings are seamlessly joined by chrome hinges and held by chrome support beams.

Vittorio Introini (1935–2023) was an Italian architect and designer active from the early 1960s, aligned with the rational yet experimental spirit of postwar Italian design. Trained in architecture, he approached furniture as small-scale architecture, using precise geometries, clear volumes, and carefully studied proportions. His collaboration with Saporiti Italia produced technically sophisticated tables, seating, and storage systems that explored new structural solutions, metal bases, and rich veneers, giving his pieces a sculptural presence while remaining highly functional.
